Refurbished Nightstand

I got this nightstand for free from a previous job 18 years ago.  Yes, FREE!! It has been well used over the years next to our bed, but it was time to update it.  There were so many nicks and places on top that were worn.

I have fallen in love with chalk paint. NO STRIPPING, NO SANDING AND NO PRIMING! Let's face it, I'm a busy mom of 4.  I really don't have time to do all those things.  I discovered Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint.  It's only a fraction of the cost of other chalk paints and it covers just as well.  I chose the Aged Gray color for this piece and it looks FABULOUS.  Here's the before picture of the nightstand.

You can see the worn spots and stains on the top of it.  It looks awful! To make painting easier I discovered one of my favorite toys, the Homeright Finish Max paint sprayer.  It only took a few minutes to do each coat of paint on the nightstand.

This is after just the first coat of paint.  It covered the piece really well.

This is how it looks finished with only two coats of paint.  If you are painting with chalk paint you need to finish it off with wax.  I used Minwax Paste Finishing Wax. You only need a small amount of wax to cover your piece.  Work it into the paint with a waxing brush and wait about 24 hours before buffing it to a sheen.  It takes about 21 days for the wax to cure so be careful using it until then. I distressed the nightstand just a little bit, but you can sand the area you want to look worn as little or as much as you want before you wax.  This nightstand looks sooooo much better than before.  Not 2 shabby, if I say so myself!!!
